May 2023 was a profoundly meaningful month for me, as I participated in the Motherhood exhibition at Taf in Athens. This group exhibition explored the many facets of motherhood, and it marked the first time I presented a work dedicated to my own mother.
From my interview with Kathimerini:
“Alexandra Diona has so far experienced motherhood primarily as the daughter of a mother who was her role model. When she hears the word ‘mother,’ her own mother immediately comes to mind. They were only 23 years apart—when Alexandra was 19, her mother fell seriously ill, forcing them to shift roles. Due to family circumstances, she took on the responsibility of caring for her mother until her passing. She recalls this as a dark yet tender period, marked by open conversations about impending loss. She remembers her mother’s courage and strength, and how, in the end, she left her one final lesson in life. ‘I still feel her love,’ Alexandra reflects. ‘This is what motherhood means to me: a love that never dies. That’s why I named this work Eternal Mother.’”

Eternal Mother, 2023
My piece, Eternal Mother, is a tapestry created using a tufting gun, measuring 1.20 x 1.50 meters. It embodies the enduring love I received from my mother, a love that nurtured me and allowed me to flourish.
